What is Massage?
Massage is the manual manipulation of the soft tissue (skin, muscles, and other connective tissues). When properly applied, the treatment releases toxins, balances the body, improves posture, relieves aches and pains, and increases the flow of oxygen and other nutrients within your blood, bones, brain and organs.
Relaxation Massage uses a variety of manual techniques designed to relieve stress, promote relaxation and enhance overall wellness. This type of massage has significant and even profound therapeutic value - relaxation is therapeutic. It is generally performed using broad strokes and fluid, rhythmic movements. Swedish Massage is a perfect example of relaxation Massage using medium to firm pressure.
Therapeutic / Deep Tissue Massage employs a variety of manual techniques to promote stress relief and relaxation, mobilize various structures, relieve pain and swelling, and improve range of motion and function. While it is important to be fluid and rhythmic with the movements, this type of massage utilizes deep pressure and is focused on specific areas and tissues in the body. It is performed to produce specific mechanical changes in the tissues.
